Frequently Asked Questions

We responde to common questions, categorised by theme.

About Messagenes (the tool and its added value)

What does M+ do?

M+ is technology that makes data work for you. It’s a collaborative tool to gather data and distribute reports. You can automate your information exchanges, define every team member’s data contribution and the insight they get in return. M+ provides personalized reports that update automatically in real time, eases teamwork and grows trust amongst you whole team.

Why M+?

With M+ you can monitor results and guarantee quality while reducing reporting efforts. Be smart and improve your process, motivate your team and empower them with data. Run your project smoothly and attract collaborators, talent and users, all the ingredients for success.

Why is it considered a collaborative tool?

M+ tech creates a environment where every individual member participates, supplying data, in a more active way. Advancing and thus enhancing the wealth and potential of your human capital. It’s a model we call collaborative intelligence, designed to benefit users (volunteers, employees & contributors) as much as the organization itself, so the community at large benefits the most.

Data (collection, property & privacy)

What do we do with your data?

M+ analizes your data and automatically generates feedback in real time. It creates dynamic reports that change as new data comes in. Or technology allows M+ to make personalized reports for any stakeholders. This content combines primary data gathered by the user with secondary data obtained by Messagenes (e.g. World bank, local government etc.).

But who owns this data?

At M+, data is owned by the user who generated the data or the organization they work for. This can be kept completely private or shared within a limited community.

At M+ we can create data communities to share data between members. In that case, several Newrooms use the same M+ Frame and everyone in the community can enjoy the benefits of its “Open data”. These communities have strict rules of entry and even stricter rules for sharing and aggregating all the while keeping the data in property.

How does M+ protect your data privacy?

M+ does not use data generated on the platform commercially. The data will always remain property of the clients and users. Our business model does not rely on advertisement revenues nor the data that these require.

How is data collected at M+?

M+ captures user data from individuals with an assigned role via DataCards and StoryCards. Every user answers questions, according to their role and through their DataCard within the context of a Newsroom (the project), at a given frequency. Assign roles, frequencies and newsrooms with M+ Frames.

Roles (definition & functions)

Why are there roles in M+?

Your project is your people. Understanding what someone’s Role is in you project is essential for your success. M+ supports people’s Role in your project.

Users have a Role to define the way they collaborate with the project. In other words, what stories they must share (StoryCard), what data they must give (DataCard) and what insight they receive in exchange (ReportCard).

One person can have more than one role within the same Newsroom or can be in several Newsrooms with different Roles.

Cards (definition, types & functions)

What are cards for?

Cards are our way of participating in a project within your Role.

What is a StoryCard?

StoryCards are used to gather stories. Users use them to publish and interact with each other. It’s the only personal card that a user has. On this card the user shares their experience in photos and text and as such it is truly his own. StoryCards can therefore be edited (name, photo, language, contact info).

What is a DataCard?

DataCards are used to gather data that stays in context. The same DataCard can be assigned to one or more users. The admin creates the DataCards and chooses the questions that will be in it. Users can only answer them, not edit them.

What is a ReportCard?

ReportCards are used to spread data in the form of insight. The ReportCards are personalized for the user that sees it, so you choose who sees what. Anyone you want can get one, just invite them. They can be given to active users who give data and add stories or more passive users who just want to have a look and evaluate. That is why ReportCards are a good way to share your newly collected data with stakeholders in a tailor-made and contextualized form.

Frame (definition, functions & property)

What is a Frame?

The Frame is the basic structure of any project or service in M+. It defines the give and take: who contributes and who receives information at what time. In the context of a project, the Frame defines who will produce the stories, who will fill in the data and who will receive certain types of feedback. These rights and responsibilities are allocated by a set of Roles. You can make your own Frame by designing Roles that fit your project or you can use a Frame someone with a similar project has already created.

Who owns the data generated by a Frame?

If your Frame is doing well it will produce large quantities of data from several different projects. That data is property of the users or project owners that use the Frame. If you want you can make the data available for a community, such as Large NGO’s, franchise chains, associations etc.

Newsroom (definition, privacy, participation, invitation & integration

What is a newsroom?

A Newsroom represents your project. It’s the channel where everyone with a role meets and it keeps your data stays in context. Here is where you find StoryCards, DataCards and ReportCards. Users go to the Newsroom to locate themselves inside a context before they publish a story, fill-in data or receive feedback from any of their cards. Every Newsroom has a URL and can be personalized to make it look like your own (corporate color, logo and header).

Is this like a private Facebook?

Not really, although the Newsroom timeline looks like it. The timeline is just for the publications on StoryCards. However, the M+ Newsroom serves as a better channel for context. On one hand it collects stories and data, and on the other it distributes reports and spreads information within your ecosystem. And all this without having to fill out personal profiles of the users!

Can a newsroom be public?

You can choose! If it is private only those with a card (StoryCard, DataCard or ReportCard) will be able to access it, but if you want the whole world to see your activity, that’s fine with us. In any case they will only see the timeline with stories. Data reports can only be seen through ReportCards.

How do Newsroom users add content?

Easy, they can use our free APP or do it on the web. They can publish images or texts with StoryCards they have in a Newsroom. To add data they can answer their datacard.

Where do I see the content created?

Anyone with access to the newsroom can see the stories but only the owner can see the data. If you are the owner, you can always download the raw data in excel, csv or pdf. For more detailed and comprehensive insight, we produce customized dashboards where you can interact with, monitor and manage the whole Newsroom.

You can also send visualisations and analysis of your content with ReportCards. This is our way of sharing data with stakeholders.

How do I get contributors for my Newsroom?

To get people involved, all you have to do is open your Newsroom and click on the “INVITE” button. Here you can create cards for anyone and send them via email. Once accepted, an account is automatically created with access to the Newsroom, where the new user will find his StoryCards, and/or DataCards. If your contributor already has account a new card will be added to it instantly.

Can I use Newsrooms to inform my community?

Yes, just link your website to the Newsroom or use our widget to integrate the Newsroom timeline on your website. Every Newsroom has a URL and a QR-code.

Newscenter (definition & functions)

What is a Newscenter and what is it good for?

Several Newsrooms can be related to the same organization or the same cause. A Newscenter is a collection of related Newsrooms. Just like a Newsroom, it has a URL and can be personalized (Corporate color and Logo).

Reports (types, technology, productivity & exportability)

What type of reports does M+ create? Our tech allows us to generate reports in many shapes and sizes, based of dynamic templates that are fed your data. This includes graphs, maps and text that are managed from your dashboard. The maps, graphs and texts are updated in real time and automatically every time new data is uploaded. This is ideal for updated yearly reports, press releases or blog posts. You can also use M+ to send project memoirs or press releases automatically with NLG (Natural Language Generation). Another efficient way to work with our dynamic reports is the creation of a territorial template with data and graphs that change depending on the location. Create reports that are in multiple languages and relevant to different places. How are the reports made? Our reports are made by combining your primary data with secondary data to generate more complete insights. Why should I use M+ reports? It is the easiest way to keep your stakeholders satisfied, involved and motivated. You can improve your engagement and communication while doing much less work than before. Can I export the reports? Our reports are easy to export in various formats. The analytics can be integrated to your distribution platform so everyone you care about receives their relevant information. Plus our analytics are clear, beautiful and easy to share on social media. We know sometimes data doesn’t tell the full story, so you can choose what gets out there and what doesn’t. Your reports are tailor-made and you are the tailor. You can chose when it gets shared, how much, to whom etc. Design your strategy and generate the highest engagement.

Content Control (definition)

What is“Content Control”?

Sometimes the Newsroom owner wants to own the data produced and avoid the user from deleting it without consent. In that case you can get content control on your Newsroom.

APP (download & functions)

Is it on Android and IOS? How does it work?

Yes you can find it on both. The app shows the user the newsrooms they contribute in. Enter your newsroom and you will find your card to publish stories and respond to datacards. The app also allows you to save your favorite cards and Newsrooms to gain quick access. Turn on notification in case someone interact with you or you want to be reminded to publish.

The APP is made specifically for DataCard and Storycard users. Therefore it is simple and to the point. Our web version is better for coordinators and admins.
